Procrastination

I kept on postponing buying a laptop since last 3 years.

2006 1st half – I’m still in college, will buy one when I’ll start earning a salary

2006 2nd half – No money left after giving advance to landlord, setting up a livable rental accomodation and a couple of fligh trips

2007 1st half – Taxes, 80C investments sucked up all the money

2007 2nd half – Moved to Bangalore. Oh, that friend went to US – will ask him to bring a laptop with him when he comes back 2 months later. He was already bringing his own.

2008 1st half – will ask me CEO to receive the shipping and bring back. He was stuffed already. Anuway I can use my room mates’ laptop.

2008 2nd half – Ok, will check if someone is in US during Thanksgiving-Christams holidays. Discounts are pretty huge at that time.

2008 Dec – Huge discount from e-Zone – extremely good config in 33k plus, 2k cask back, one electric rice cooker and one flight ticket. Bought it without any hesitation. From Bangalore.

2009 Jan – Came to US. Couldn’t use the new laptop for even 2 weeks.

Procrastination never worked for me!

Senti

I talked 2 a lot of cousins and of course , my sisters today on phone. This reminded me of the 1st rakhi and the first letter I got from Peu, my cousin. I compared these instances and wondered whether the kind of emotions these events stirred in me, are replaceable.

Thinking for a while, I realized nothing can replace letters, of course a well written one, in terms of the quantum of human emotions stirred. Lovers now talk incessantly on cellphone, without fear of anybody eavesdropping. But the charm of a well written love letter is unparalleled. A letter where a lover rips open his heart, talks of his intense love is always cherished by the beloved, sometimes even for years.

Grandpa fell for Grandma when he was 19 and she was 13. The very first letter that he wrote her after their marriage, is still safe in my late Grandma’s trunk even after almost 7 decades. I have talked to my chhoto Pisi(youngest buaaji, that is) several times on phone. A few years down the line, she might forget the content of our conversations. But one thing she’ll never forget, that the very First letter that I wrote , I was in 2nd grade then, was to her. I still very vividly remember the first letter Peu wrote me, though the words were quite incomprehensible. The 1st letter that Baba (father, that is) wrote me while I was in Jamshedpur has not faded off from my memory.

Human emotions are far more stirred by little acts of love, affection, appreciation, encouragement and support than by material gains. U can get a day 2 day update about the other person on phone. But u can get a closer feel of him/her through a letter. While writing a letter , u think and rethink before jotting down words, which are then seamlessly interwoven to convey your ideas, your beliefs and your concerns.
It is my firm belief that person 2 person relations can be strengthened far more by letters than by electronic means of communication. I can read and re-read your apology letter to understand your feelings better, but u might not be able to express your point on phone.

Most of us attach more value to our mother taking care to feed us, or put the kambal over us while we are asleep, rather than her giving us a gift. The day we attach more importance to the material gains over the softer, tender human emotions , that day will spell doom for anything humane. That day, our mechanization would be complete. Period.

Another blogger enters the already crowded blogworld. I have a habit of writing diaries since ….. i peed on bed ..lol.. Well, not that young, but I started ‘dairying‘ from 8th grade. This marks my metamorphosis from a compulsive penner to a blogger.

“What do your diary contain?” my friends generally ask. And I tell them, “if you are my friends, you don’t need to go through my diary as you already know me.”. I case you find something new in my blog, then you need to go through my posts regularly because you don’t really know me.

I generally don’t share my diary with even my friends, let alone with complete strangers. Hope this experience of letting others “in” to the cortex of my brain is a nice one.
